Computer Lab
Ulloa's
state of the art computer lab provides curricular based technology
projects for K through 5 grade students on a weekly basis. Instruction
is collaborated with grade level teachers and the Curriculum Technology
Integration Specialist. Through their years at Ulloa Elementary
the students learn keyboarding, internet skills, word processing
formats, software applications and create multimedia projects
using Hyperstudio software.
Students are introduced to these things at an early age and continually
develop skills. As the field changes
they adapt easily and explore confidently as new technology is
incorporated into the curriculum. Most important is a focus on
critical thinking skills and problem solving strategies.
We
want the students to be knowledgeable independent users of powerful
computer applications. Projects, developed collaboratively in the
computer lab, center on using open-ended software, multimedia programs
and word processing verse stand alone,
drill-and kill or single use programs. Students develop computer
skills that transfer easily across applications, copying and pasting,
draw and word processing tools, and so on. Hardware, software and
curriculum changes keep the program alive and in a constant flux.
The 34 Imac Apple computers were received through writing grants.
Our job at Ulloa Elementary School is to lay the foundation for
academic excellence for all our students. Technology continues
to be a core component of our plan to enable the student body to
meet the challenges they will face when they leave Ulloa.
